What is the difference between pan-fried and ordinary frying in a frying pan?

There is no difference it is just poncey chef talk.
Exactly - it's menuspeak. To be lumped together with terms like:

on a bed of
finished with
napped with
drizzled with
etc
None at all. It's just to emphasise that it isn't deep fried. Sounds sort of wholesome, though, doesn't it?!
Sweated down, Cooked Off, Poncy cooks who call themslves Chef even if the 're alone in the Kitchen.

Thanks everyone for replying. I will now happily pan-fry breakfast on Sunday - ie bacon, eggs etc. and make
it sound far posher than it is.
I'm all over the place when I do a cooked breakfast sometimes. I like to grill the bacon, black pudding or sausages, fry the kidneys and poach the eggs. There's pans everywhere! I spend most of the afternoon washing up. I go for a variation on the theme of: crisp grilled bacon, 2 poached eggs, fried mushrooms, buttered toast, ice-cold orange juice - literally, in that both the juice and glass have been in the freezer for about 15 mins. It's the business. I rotate the meat bit of it - sometimes highland black pudding from my local butcher, or Lee House Farm pork sausages, or fried lamb kidney.

I'm interested you said "Sunday" specifically. I have a big cooked breakfast on Sundays - every other Sunday to be precise. Hopefully not too frequent so it's a health risk, but infrequently enough to make it a big treat.

Are you a man or a woman? Can't make up my mind.
The kind of things you cook seem a bit mannish and
the orange juice and glass in the freezer perhaps a
perfectionist woman. If I lived alone I probably wouldn't
bother with a cooked breakfast but have to cook for two
men. This is every Sunday I'm afraid and you have now
given me a complex with your delicious sounding menu.
Can I come for breakfast?

"A bit mannish"... that made me laugh! Well, I could capitalise on the mystery and leave you twisting in the wind... but will satisfy your curiosity and confirm I am a man.

I don't see why you should get a complex about my menu. It doesn't sound like you're doing anything very different. I suppose I am a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to food, though. Even for a fry-up, I have to get the best quality ingredients I can, which is why I get it all from either the butcher or the farmers market - literally every ingredient. Cheaper too - if I only want 2 rashers of bacon, I just ask for 2 at the butcher (my partner doesn't eat meat).

Not sure what she'd think about my having you over for breakfast though! Is Surbiton handy for you?
