steve your faith in the government is touching! Have they banned alcohol yet? They've only just got round to further restricting smoking as it is. The perception that coffee-drinking is ingrained in our lives isn't completely accurate, I don' t think. Since the 90s there's been an explosion of coffee shops and everyone seems to think they MUST arrive at work clutching their big cardboard cup of overpriced substandard Starbucks. I suspect a lot of this is the influence of films and TV and people wanting to emulate what they see. All this melodramatic "oh god I need my caffeine injection in the morning!" stuff is nonsense. But I think the "coffee culture" is a fad - a longer-staying one, admittedly, but a fad nonetheless - that will run its course.

Okay, coffee is not completely bad for you. Studies are finding that they actually help some people. If you do some reading out there you will find that out. Also alcohol is not all bad. Everything is bad if not in moderation. The caffine "craze" is not new. People have always "had to have their coffee in the morning", now it's just easier to get and not have to make yourself (at least here in the US). Plus, you can't have the specialty coffees at home which people are wanting instead of black or just with milk. I agree some of it has to do with media, but you're not going to drink coffee if you don't like the taste of it.
but does anyone know, if by adding milk to black coffee does it emulsify the caffeine drug and some how alter its effect?
i used to drink white coffee and now drink black.. i feel black is a bit more potent. you almost feel the caffeine absorption in your mouth instantly... but it may just be psychological effect
