Arctic roll

How is an Arctic Roll made? You can't see the join in the outer ring of sponge, so how do they get the ice cream in there?

Whenever I make it, I make a swiss roll as normal, but when it comes to rolling it, I put some ice cream that I have pre shaped in the middle and roll the sponge around it. I then leave it in the freezer for at least half an hour before serving in an airtight container
