However, she also drank Stout, Sherry and Brandy every day (in moderation of course! lols) along with unpasteurised Milk, so it's hard to tell which contributed to her longevity.
I'm looking forward to seeing a more informative answer than mine!

i always put a couple of slices of lemon in half a glass of water, cover it with clingfilm, leave it in the fridge overnight, then in the morning top it up with hot water, stir the slices of lemon round so's all the juice is in the water,Delicious!!
it's supposed to help clear out your system & like makemesmile says it also stimulates the digestive system, i've been drinking it for years like that & must admit i've never had any problems concerning that part of my body!! ps: especially if you've had a drink or two the night before!

I didn't think the article was that informative and some of its science seemed a bit muddled - how can anything have a surplus of either anions or cations? Embedded in all this though there does seem to be some clear benefits although the water is probably there usually just to dilute the lemon, as many people find it difficult to take pure fresh lemon.
I'm glad lemon juice is beneficial as I absolutely love it. And if you're ever in the Sloan Square area of London, go to the Al Dar Lebanese restaurant, where they do a fresh lemonade that's out of this world, whizzed up on the spot from fresh lemons - frosty cold, zappy with lemonyness and absolutely delicious. Had one there last night, in fact, with my tasty chicken shawarma.
