how long and at what temp did you cook cake ?. you should have put a knife in it to see if it is cooked all. the way throgh first
I have found that each oven is a little bit different - so you have to keep checking it instead of just following the cooking times the recipe calls for.
Have you thrown it out now. You could have put it in a basin and finished it in the microwave and served it with custard or white sauce. Fruit cake can take up to 3 hours to bake. You need to wrap brown paper around to stop it burning.
hi oldwoman,

can you explain a bit more about using the brown paper? do you line the greased cake tin with brown paper or do you wrap the cake with brown paper before microwaving it? this is a good tip to know, only i don't understand what you mean ☺☺

thanks

jannyneve, you could have returned the cake to the tin and let it continue to bake until it's cooked. if the oven was cooled, let it heat up first before returning the cake to finish cooking.
You put the brown paper round the outside of the cake tin. I usually use 2 -3 layers and the the same number on top of the cake tin and under the tin to stop it burning.
Lia I was not cooking the cake in the microwave, in its tin. This was if the cake had been turned out and wouldnt go back in to bake, so that the mixture wasn`t wasted. The brown paper is used as above because of the long baking in the oven.x
thanks oldwoman and jimjools for responding to my question.

jimjool i take it to mean that the entire cake tin must be wrapped in brown paper. however, i'm curious to know if the paper would not burn from the heat of the oven.
