My daughter is out with friends she has had a spritzer, the pub say its a large glass of wine with lemonade, we want to know if she is within legal limits to drive, she feels fine. I imagine it is about 175ml
If she has had just one she sholud be alright. Glass of wine is 2 units. It takes the average body 1 hour to get rid of 1 unit. so it depends when she drank it.
I got a policeman friend to test me and my mates. I'd drank about 9/10 vodka's and passed. My friends drank 9/10 half lagers and failed!!!!
Isn't it better to stay off the booze if you're driving. You know your clear then. There have been times when I have drunk a shed load and felt alright, and other times when one drink has had an effect on me so you never can tell. It all depends what your metabolism is like, are you small or large, have you eaten recently etc.
As I said, better not to drink any alcohol if you drive.
I quite agree, this is the first time it has happened, she thought by having a spritzer she wouldnt need to be concerned, but the pub made it far stronger than she aniticipated.
Textmum. Please impress on your daughter how important it is to not drink and drive. Ask her to imagine life without a driving license, or worse still ask her to imagine standing in the dock on a manslaughter charge having just caused a death whilst drink driving. This is one lesson better learned the easy way.
A 250ml glass of average (12%) wine contains 3 units.
A simple formula for working out units is -
volume(ml) x strength (%) divided by 1000.
IE: 250 x 12 = 3000
3000 / 1000 = 3 units
The legal limit is 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood. This is about 3 units. HOWEVER, alcohol affects everyone differently and this is only a rough guide.
The government are currently in the process of changing the law so that anyone under 21 CANNOT even have one drink.
It is worth considering that you are 2.5 times more likely to hace an accident if you have a drink and still remain legal to drive.
Don't let her drink and drive. It's just easier to have a soft drink.
You can buy a gadget now that you use to test your own breath and see whether you are over the limit - never tried it so don't know how good it is but saw them in Costco and also in www.boysstuff.co.uk. BUT definately better not to drink AT ALL when driving
