TV Cooks Part 2
23 Answers
Is it just me or do other people get frustrated by people like Jamie Oliver saying stuff like, 'You can get stuffed albators in all the supermarkets these days'. Well I live in Kent and we have big supermarkets down here but its really hard to find a lot of the stuff TV cooks reckon is freely avalibable on every street corner. For example I love Rick Stein but I cant cook 90% of his stuff because there's always somthing I can never get.

Here where i live in North Yorkshire we have a huge Tescos supermarket and it really p1$$es me off that you can get 72 brands of sugar-and-$h1t coated cereal yet you get no choice at all in things like ethnic foods eg. chinese ingredients (bloody Sharwoods), olives, fresh fruit and veggies (what is it about supermarkets that they only sell Braeburns, granny smiths and Gala apples - you'd think these were the only apples on the planet!). btw what is a stuffed albator?
Perhaps I am lucky because I find that in the North West of England we can buy almost any food product. In or around Manchester is excellent for food shopping. As well as all the ethnic shops there are many traders in the markets of Bury, Bolton and Warrington etc who will get things especially for you. I use Rick Stein's recipes and have always been able to obtain the ingredients. I too do not know what an albator is.
I agree that in the large towns these things are avaliable but its the suggestion the "Your Local supermarket will have them" that gets me. I live 50 miles from London and you just cant get the things they say you can. Having worked in a Supermarket I know that they can order stuff in but thats not the point.
To his credit....little Jamie was responsible for getting Sainsbury's to stock curry leaves. But the most frustrating thing I find about him is that he is 14 and has a natural flair with scoff. I can't help liking the brat, however, Rick Stein Falls On His Own Skewer is the prog I look forward to...
i live in a small bit of london ( out west near heathrow / southall) which has apparently got the most impressive ethnic diversity in the coutry, our local tescos / sainsburys (even the small ones) stock a huge range of foods and specialities, the ethnic foods that darth is after in fact. i'm very aware of how no-one elses supermarkets stock this stuff because sometimes i have to go to them and it's really frustrating. the reason our's stock them has to be either consumer demand or they choose their stock according to local demographics. point is that big supermarkets can all get this stuff, you just have to make em want to :-)

sft42 - Are you still broken hearted after all this time? Has your heart not mended just a tiniest bit? Think about Christmas Eve and the other times when the women on this board tried their hardest to console you.
Focus your mind on AWT and think of the worst thing that could befall him - I said think, not say... :-D
