Why do sausage rolls have to be so fattening?

Because while you can make the stuffing as low fat as possible you simply can't make decent pastry without a good amount of fat.

It's just an acorn of an idea I've got going at the mo as I'm not a pastry fan but do love the sausagy meaty goodness.
I'm thinkinh I might experiement and make them with very thinly rolled pizza dough. Like mini calzones. I'm sure they'd be just as tasty but far less oily...
It is just an idea though...

NH, I adore pastry too, sausage rolls, cornish pasties, cream horns, steak pie.............as I am aiming to lose half a stone before Christmas no mince pies for me

its a matter of taste, low fat ones would not taste as good as fatty ones

curlyfilm- be that as it may, why should we be punished for that sort of thing? I mean, if you get a real kick out of sex, you keep the human race going. OK, so I'm not saying that babies are completely pain-free, but most parents would say they're worth and they're very cute. Eat too many sausage rolls and you die. See, just not fair.
