Recipies for my brand spanking new slow cooker please.
I got a crock pot
tra la la la la.
Ok folks, eventually went for a 3.5ltr pot with oval ceramic, removeable, dishwasher safe dish, yippee!!
Only problem is that I don't have any recipies, so if anyone could post some simple, easy-peasy, idiot proof recipies, I would be very grateful, something like how to cook a joint of meat (have lamb in freezer) or maybe a casserole or stew, that would be great for starters. I don't want to try anything too complicated until I get the hang of it.

Any large sized meat you want to cook - just take it frozen and put it in the dry slow cooker - sprinkle any herbs/spices you want on it - put the lid on it - turn it on low and leave it alone for 8 or 10 hours. No need to check on it - it doesn't need any help!!! No need for liquid of any kind - I have done it this exact way for YEARS and have never had a problem.
I have a closing at 3:00 - so that is the best I can do for right now - but you know I will have more for you later:)

Any casserole or stew that you would normally put in the oven will work the same in the slow cooker.
Try half a leg of lamb ..slit the skin and stick slivers of garlic it the slits ..sprinkle it with rosemary shove it in the cooker and cook on low for eight hours .Same with brisket ..put it on a bed of vegetables add a liitle stock and cook on low for eight hours....same with gammon.

Slice potatoes leeeks and carrots layer them and season each layer .Shred a small savoy cabbage and bung that on top. Brown eight good quality sausages ..I use Cumberland from the butcher ....lay them on top ..pour half a pint of Knorr vegetable stock over and cook on high for six hours . Buy the Lakeland Book ...you will have more recipes than you shake a stick at.

Brown it in a pan ..chuck it in the pot ...add whatever you like ,mushrooms ,chopped green peppers ,garlic,leeks ,carrots ,onions,tiny baby spuds ,tin of tomatoes ,cook all day on medium ..thicken towards the end if needed ..turn it up to high for the last half hour after adding some dumplings.
The sausage hotpot one is nice too with browned pork chops on top of the veg .

Try this one from Delia. Don't even need to brown the meat. Just throw everything cold into the pot and it's delicious.

Slow Cooker Chicken Cordon Bleu
6 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves
1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of chicken soup
1 cup milk
4 ounces sliced ham
4 ounces sliced Swiss cheese
1 (8 ounce) package herbed dry bread stuffing mix
1/4 cup butter, melted
Mix together the cream of chicken soup and milk in a small bowl. Pour enough of the soup into a slow cooker to cover the bottom. Layer chicken breasts over the sauce. Cover with slices of ham and then Swiss cheese. Pour the remaining soup over the layers, stirring a little to distribute between layers. Sprinkle the stuffing on top, and drizzle butter over stuffing. Cover, and cook on Low for 4 to 6 hours, or 2 to 3 hours on High.

4 pounds ground beef
1 (1 ounce) envelope dry onion soup mix
1 1/2 (10.5 ounce) cans condensed French onion soup
16 hamburger buns, split
Crumble the ground beef into a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook and stir until evenly browned, crumbling even more as it cooks. Drain off the grease. Stir in the onion soup mix and French onion soup. Cover, and simmer over low heat for about 2 hours, or you may transfer to a slow cooker for this part.
To serve, spoon onto hamburger buns like a sloppy Joe.

3/4 cup chopped celery
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon dried parsley
4 tablespoons butter
3 cups chicken broth
4 cups cubed potatoes
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
2 cups cubed Cheddar cheese
1 1/2 cups milk
1/4 cup sour cream
In a large pot, melt 1 tablespoon butter or margarine over medium heat: cook and stir vegetables and beef, until beef is brown.
Stir in basil and parsley. Add broth and potatoes.
Bring to a boil, then simmer until potatoes are tender, about 10-12 minutes. Melt the remainder of butter and stir in flour. Add the milk, stirring until smooth. Gradually add milk mixture to the soup, stirring constantly. Bring to a boil and reduce heat to simmer. Stir in cheese. When cheese is melted, add sour cream and heat
through. Do not boil.

Thick and creamy. Uses leftover baked potatoes. 12 slices smoked bacon
2/3 cup margarine
2/3 cup all-purpose flour
7 cups milk
4 large baked potatoes,
peeled and cubed
4 green onions, chopped
1 1/4 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
1 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
Place bacon in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium heat until browned. Drain, crumble, and set aside. In a stock pot or Dutch oven, melt the margarine over medium heat. Whisk in flour until smooth. Gradually stir in milk, whisking constantly until thickened. Stir in potatoes
and onions. Bring to a boil, stirring frequently.
Reduce heat, and simmer 10 minutes. Mix in bacon, cheese, sour cream, salt, and pepper. Continue cooking, stirring frequently, until cheese is melted.

War - I thought of another one for this time of year - when you are having group functions. I don't like Velveeta cheese, but when it is in this dip - it is great - and the smell will make it hard to wait to taste it!

1 can Ro-tel Tomatoes
1 pound Hamburger
1 pound Bulk Sausage
Tortilla Chips for Dipping
Scramble, cook & drain the hamburger & sausage together in a frying pan.
Put the tomatoes in the slow cooker.
Cut the Velveeta into large chunks/cubes - I use unwaxed, non-mint dental floss to cut it because it is way easier than using a knife - toss them in the slow cooker.
Add the meat.
Turn the slow cooker on low. The cheese will melt and stay warm in the slow cooker.
Use the tortilla chips to dip.

ha ha BBW, no I havent used it yet but am having friends over this weekend so am going to cook the lamb, just nice and simple like you advised. I have been itching to use it but as I am on my own at the moment I didn't think there was much point, I have been spending my time pouring over my cookery books looking at recipies to use, how exciting is my life???
lol War - I prefer to think of it in finding joy in even the smallest of things - you know you can't have a marching band every day - so you have to find happiness in the quiet days also:)

BBW, cooked the lamb just like you said, WOW, it was absolutely delicious, the meat just fell of the bone and it was 'melt in your mouth' fantastic! No trouble at all, just put the lamb in, inserted a few slivers of garlic and some rosemary and let the cooker do the rest!!! Served it with new baby potatoes and mint, asparagus and baby sweetcorn. Everyone was impressed, I really wanted to pretend that I had slaved over the stove all day but I was too excited and pleased so I just sang the praises of my new best 'electric' friend. Not only was the lamb delicious but it left me with the whole day to use as I wish, no running back and forth to the oven, is it ready?, is it not?, was able to go out and do some shopping, clean the house, watch telly, brilliant, definitely the best investment I have made in a long while, thank you all.
War - I am so glad you loved it!!! That is why when I see these people on AB telling people to run back and forth basting meat all day - I just want to say - there are better and much easier ways!!!! Either using a slow cooker or totally sealing it in aluminum foil and doing it in the oven eliminates all of that!!!

BBW, what would be a comparable cheese for Velveeta, I am thinking of some kind of mozzarella (sp?) or softish rubberish cheese?
For hamburger i am thinking minced beef and for the sausage we can buy sausage meet over here by the pound.
Basically anything with tortilla chips I will eat buy the bucket load, in fact I sometimes make dips just as and excuse to eat the chips!!!

War - there is no substitute for Velveeta - it is a "cheese food" made by Kraft - fake cheese - not real cheese - that is why I don't like it at all - EXCEPT in this dip and it is wonderful in it!!!
