Is there a particular time of year when crab is 'in season' as the summer usually brings huge crab claws and it was very slim pickings in November when I last checked.

Was having a lovely dinner party and was going to make my famous chilli crab on Saturday.

The UK crab season is roughly March to the beginning of October. When the water's cooler, they'll eat less and get skinnier (on the inside!).

Hope this helps - and shop local by the way! - use the local farmers' market / farm shop and boycott the s/market imported stuff whenever you can - Spanish strawberries in January or Peruvian asparagus....??

Save the foodmiles, hug a tree, eat the seasons, cuddle a carrot....you get the picture..
