Loch Fyne is really good, and serves excellent sea food, it is based in the heart of the town, you might even be lucky enough to have a french market outdside as it is based on a little square where every weekend something is going on.
La Bodega just a little further down the road serves excellent tapas, it's a family run place and the food is exquisit. You can have a great tapas meal to share or they do have larger individual dishes.
Suggest a type of food and I'll see if I can help a little more.

Hey Smurfchops! I am veggie too so it's an easy question to answer, especially as I live 10 min down the road.
It sounds odd but there are not too many places actually along the river that cater for this weather, plus the river is close to bursting it's banks so you might want to keep dry ;o)
I would suggest a nice place to eat (with good parking and food) would be the George and Dragon (http://www.stgeorgeanddragon.co.uk/welcome.htm ) which is slightly outside Henley (5 min drive) on a really picturesque drive (past the sultan of Brunei's massive mansion) and then maybe a bit later having a scone and a nice cup of tea (ha ha I sound 70!!) in a little cafe overlooking the river.
Any more questions I'm always happy to help. x

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner Smurfchops! The Angel food is not that good. It is more of a summer pub, as it has decking on the river, and the food is pretty much junk food on paper plates and plastic forks. Inside the food is still a bit below standard but there is more of a variety and the cutlery is better, but I've not eaten in there since the Autumn.
The Crooked Billet is excellent, really REALLY great food, even Kate Winslet had her wedding reception there! If I was going to go out for a nice luxury Sunday lunch this is probabaly where I would head.
Hope I have reached you in time, if you have already been I hope it was yummy wherever you ended up. x
