The prices are dreadful at the moment,it will be to do with the weather. For fish pie I would look in the frozen section. Morrisons have really good deals on cod and salmon frozen.
Morrisons seem to be very cheap for fresh fish at the moment.

if my fish pie tastes as delish as it sounds then next time i will use frozen fish , hi in a pickle you are right about the roast beef ,i too am a 50's baby and remember roast beef always being around, but not too much chicken, and fish was always dirt cheap ,and coley was what i bought to give my cat a treat as it was cheaper than cat food, now it's being sold as smoked coley and is the same price as cod!!
Surely fish has become more expensive since it became scarcer.
And it became scarcer when huge foreign trawlers (from a country with 5 letters, beginning with S) came into our fishing grounds and started hoovering up the fish from the sea.
