Philosophically speaking, I don't think you should cook a potato and burn it. It seems quite feisty to me. I wanna see interesting food streaks and a competent fairly clean plate o' food.

Yes, you're right CT, I was hoping beyond all hope that the TV had been tuned to BBC2 in the locked ward, but no such luck.

He's got the right ideas but not the right execution.
i may not be the best chef in the world, but have worked for all the top admirials, done dinners for all sorts, etc. i just ask my self "what does he know." john torode on the other hand, does know his onions

curlyfilm, are you really a chef ? So how about beans and fennel then. No way is it gonna work (Gregg Wallace). Beans work with white pepper and chilli sauce.

Potatoes should never, ever be burned (or burnt !) Mind you, I simply do not hold with fennel and beans. Beans and fish, ok, just about, but fennel as well ? nope, sorry !
Hi Whiffey,

I haven't seen the show, but thinly sliced, seasoned sauteed potatoes, when it reaches 'that' stage of sticking to the pot turning all brown and crisp is yummy.

Sliced or diced fennel in a mixed bean salad is delicious.
