How do i make whiskey taste nice?

I was given a bottle of jim beam for xmas and cant stand it as a straight drink, is there a mixer to mask or alter the taste so it is less harsh.

Ginger ale is ok if you use 1/4 whisky and fill the glass up with ginger ale. lemonade works at a push too.

I was going to give it away, but as it was a gift, my aunty keeps asking if i liked it, so didn't want to hurt her feelings.
I think i should tell her though or i may get more for my birthday, lol.

4 cl Whisky
8 cl Bailey's irish cream
Coffee
Mixing instructions:
Mix the whisky and Baileys Cream in a beer-glass (at least 50 cl). Fill the rest of the glass with coffee.

If you drink coffee add it to that...it can be quite warming that way :)

I'm not a spirits person at all and don't like the smell of whiskey, brandy etc. However, I do love a Manhattan cocktail which is 1 part whisky to 1part red martini.

I also have trouble sleeping sometimes so I'll have a mug of hot milk with a dash of whiskey and half a teaspoon of brown sugar before bed and I sleep like a log.

Same as you I hate the smell, I won a bottle at Xmas plus I got two bottles of red wine which I hate too. I have friends coming at the weekend who love both,so I was chuffed when I saw you Manhatten cocktail, cheers (no pun intended) a cherry on the top and I'll have a fancy drink for them.

Don't like it myself (Islay malts, any Scotch whisky - miuch better) so why bother drinking it.
