What do YOU call kayli ?

I thought that everybody called that stuff that you buy in quarters from the sweety shop and dip your traffic-light lollies in, kayli. However, recently on a trip to Cambridge the subject came up and all I got was blank stares.
I was told it was called 'rainbow crystals'.
Where r u from and what do you call it ? (I'm in Derbyshire as regulars will know ) xx

Kayli is not just a Black country word I am from Northampton and we used to call the stuff in the jars that you brought by the quarter Kayli when we were little in the sixties and early seventies. I am wondering if it was a word in general use in the midlands.

I'm from NZ but lived in the UK as a child in Cheshire and I remember it as kayli. Love it. Has a particular scent than contains a lot of happy memories.

I've always believed that 'Kali' is a short version of 'alkali'. I never understood why that should be so, as it taste more like acid than alkali.
Pennyworth of kali and a ha'penny spanish was well worth buying to save the bus fare.
