Hi
I have sausages and bacon left in the fridge which needs to be used today. I'd like to make a meal out of it, (but not obviously a fry up) has anyone got an ideal recipe? Thanks

I'd nip to the butchers and get some liver ( if you like it )
and do a lovely warming sausage, liver and bacon casserole. It will be fine in oven on a low heat til you're ready for it and it'll be scrummy with a big yorkshire pudding, veg and/or mashed potato. Mmmm
Question Author
Thanks for the suggestion peppy but we dont like liver at home. Can I make it without it?
Make or buy some stuffing, split the sausages lengthways, stuff them and wrap them in bacon.

Stick them in the oven for half an hour
Question Author
good idea...but does that make a hearty meal? :I
Would be absolutely fine without liver filthiestfis x x
Cooked sausage and bacon.
Tin of chopped tomatoes
 pint red wine or stock
6oz mushrooms
2 onions
2 carrots
1 clove of garlic,
2 tbsp herbs
1 tbsp tomato puree
1 tbsp oil
Salt & pepper

Heat the oil in a casserole dish then add the chopped onions, chopped carrots and crushed garlic cook until soft. Put the cooked bacon and sausage in the dish with the tomatoes, wine/stock, herbs, tomato puree and seasoning and bring to the boil.

Pre-heat oven to 190C; 375F: Gas 5.cover and cook for an hour and a half then add the mushrooms cover and continue to cook for a further 30 minutes.

Would be lovely served with some mashed potato.
what about a sausage pie?
do you have any onions? maybe an apple and some potatoes?
Question Author
I can pop to waitrose and get any extra ingredients thats not a problem. I must say Jenna your idea looks ace!
Hash browns would be lovely with it as well, if you want to make it a heartier meal you could try adding some baked beans with the onions for the final half and hour.
Question Author
Thanks a lot Jenna, I love you!!!! Dinner at my house? ;)
Sorry! Should have read with the mushrooms not the onions!

Enjoy whatever you make.
Oooooooh :) Sounds good to me :) I might even do the washing up ;)
Question Author
LOL you are welcome my dear x
You could make a sausage and bacon toad in the hole. That would be lovely on a chilly day like this.
Question Author
its not so chilly down here in london/essex Scooby! The sun is out...birds are singing....
You could make a sausage and bacon risotto if you have any rice.

1 teaspoon vegetable oil
1 red onion, finely chopped
1 clove garlic, finely chopped
250g carnaroli rice
2 tablespoons white wine, optional
1 vegetable stock cube made up with 750ml boiling water
1 red pepper, deseeded and sliced
6 rashers bacon, chopped
6 sausages chopped
freshly ground black pepper

Heat the oil in a large pan and cook the onion and garlic slowly until softened.
Add the rice and cook for a further minute to coat the grains of rice.
Add the wine and cook until absorbed.
Add the bacon, sasuage and pepper.
Pour over sufficient stock to cover the rice and cook for 15 minutes, keep the remaining stock warm, only adding more stock when required.
Season to taste .

Thats a really good one wonderwoman1 -thank you. Im just about to pop to my local, cant quite decide between the risotto and Jenna's casserole.
Question Author
wonderwoman1 -just wondering if the 15 mins is really enough to cook the bacon and sausage right through?
Question Author
...or should it already be cooked before inserting into the risotto?
15 mins will be long enough but if you are worried about it, cook them off before you start.

enjoy!! xx
