trying to swot up on diabetes. Ive been on a few web sights to learn more info, but none of them tell me what i need to know. If you have D T 1 does it mean that you cant consume any type of sugar whatsoever (SUCROSE GLUCOSE, LACTOSE, ETC) Surely if you have insulin every day then would this be safe to do so????
Energy should be taken in from complex carbohydrates to give a steady release of energy. The carbs are broken down into sugars but utilised slowly. Simple sugars will cause blood sugar level to rise too quickly and should be avoided as much as possible. Diabetics have very varied regimes with regards to insulin. Well controlled diabetics often have just two doses of long acting insulin per day whereas someone with poor control may take a dose of short acting insulin before each meal with a long acting insulin taken once or twice a day as a background.
thanks allijangra! thankyou . I understand ,but dont understand why pharmacist wont allow me to sell any medicines vitamins etc that contain GLUCOSE ETC surely he cant be wrong?
Sorry I dont understand what you mean. Selling to who? If you mean selling things containing glucose to diabetics then my answer explained that simple sugars ie glucose, will cause a sharp rise in blood sugar and should be avoided by diabetics.
pharmacist wont let me sell to diabetics. The link that you gave me says on step 7 (eating well to limit sugary foods) says that sugar can be used in foods and in baking. Im sorry to be a pain! so all in all what you say is that sugars shouldn.t be used as this may cause blood sugars to rise quickly. I am very grateful for your responses thankyou once again x
You are very welcome :) The main point is that sugar is not completely banned but should be limited as much as possible so sugar-free alternatives should be used with regards to regular medications that need to be taken on a daily basis.
