Creme Fraiche or well-sweetened fromage frais/fromage blanc?

A home-made creme anglais?

Lightly whipped Elmlea - but will probably melt down.

Calvados sorbet - but will definitely melt down!

do you think a pureed frozen banana might be a good substitute for the ice cream?
Never tried it. I'd lean more towards a banana (or other fruit)sorbet than just frozen puree - if you can get one. Alcohol sorbets are easy to do yourself though.
500g caster sugar, 1 litre water, 250ml spirit of your choice. Mix water & sugar and bring to boil. Remove from heat and let cool. Add spirit, stir well and put in covered container in freezer. Take out of freezer daily, stir well with a fork or whisk and return to freezer as quickly as possible. Will keep in freezer for weeks.
Stir again just before serving.
