cheap flour

i bought morrisons own flour to bake with and my cake tastes rubbish! does cheap flour make a difference in baking or could it just be something else like a different brand of butter etc?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.I always by the 'basic' flour and have had no probs. I find that the difference in taste happens when i use marg instead of butter.
If I am making a plain sponge cake maybe to fill with jam and cream I always dollop in a bit of vanilla flavouring or sometimes I use almond flavouring
The best way is to experiment because IMHO using the cheaper flours makes no difference to the finished product....cake tins always empty quickly in my house...lol
