Could someone instruct me how to poach cod in milk, I know it seems self-explanatory, but have never done it befor and the cod was so expensive I don't want to mess it up.

just cover with milk and gently simmer
it does not take very long
remember and season

as ronnie say, gently simmer! hope it turns out ok, making me think of having the same for dinner now, anyway some more tips here

thanks for the link mccfluff, unfortunately will have to put this on hold, just been to the freezer to take out the cod and it is gone, gone I tell you!!! This is what happens when I leave mrwarpig on his own, the greedy barsteward, there is loads of salmon there which I dont eat but oh no he had to go for the cod, aghhhh. Of course it is my fault for not checking first:-o( but I have copied the link for future reference.

Cod is very nice just put into silver foil with a squirt of lemon and some pepper, then popped into a hot oven. it only takes 15 to 20 minutes and is always moist and delicious.
Also use the milk afterwards to make the parsley or mushroom sauce. Waste not want not.
the easiest and least smelly way to poach fish is in the microwave. place fish in flat dish with a small splash of milk. cover with plastic wrap and puncture it with a few holes for steam to escape. microwave on high for maybe 3-4 minutes. job done. take care when removing the plastic wrap though and enjoy.
