Potatoes are very dry....milk makes them a lot smoother. Butter gives them a creamier flavour.
Try adding a dash of double cream in place of milk followed by a handful of grated cheese and maybe a spoonful of grainy mustard. A couple of splishes of worcester sauce are nice too...........
Finely chopped raw onions and garlic is good in mash as is chives.
I often put a dash of lemon...or lime juice in too and sometimes some honey.
For lovely appley mash, stir in a spoonful of apple sauce.
You could add virtually anything you choose to mash.....including yesterdays left over vegetables which are then fried to make bubble and squeek....which is what i'm having tonight !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, I can see you lot aren't on diets!!!!!!
I love mashed potato but will only go as far as adding plenty of skimmed milk and onion to mine.
I envy you all!!
You can interchange the dairy products however you want to adjust the flavour and consistancy.
Double or single cream, different types of milk, butter, creme fraiche or even marg (for the unpure) or olive oil works.
I find that a majority of butter then a bit of double or single cream works best. Always lots of salt too!
