still have an unopened pack of smoked salmon in the fridge, in 2 minds whether to eat it or chuck it. i know that fish can be dodgy but surely because salmon is cured with salt, would not still be ok to eat?? the date on it is the 10th may 07.
I always ask myself - if it is vacuum packed and was safe and bug-free when it was packaged, what could have happened to it in the fridge to make it unsafe ? Having said that, for the sake of a couple of quid it's never worth taking the chance.
In the days before fridges and vacuum-packing my mother had a motto: "When in doubt, chuck it out." It wasn't just because of the health hazard but the fact that it is difficult really to enjoy food if you are wondering whether every mouthful is poisoning you.
