Supermarket strawberries will ALWAYS be inferior to what you can grow yourself in the garden or on an allotment. Right now we are picking pounds of strawberries every day and eating them as a dessert, making jam and generally pigging out on them until the gooseberries and raspberries are ready!
It is unlikely that supermarket strawberries will improve after purchase. Their whole idea is to have the fruit looking good at the point of sale regardless of flavour, texture or longevity.
For about 10 a year - an allotment is a worthwhile hobby providing a lot of interest, learning, exercise, great food, new friends, and all-round satisfaction and general well-being.
Excuse me - must go - I've still got today's crop to eat!
