Amelio - I did notice quite a few American brands on the Sainsbury website the other night - including Diet Coke and Oscar Meyer bacon - although with the wonderful bacon available there in the UK, I can't imagine why they have that:)

Thanks guys, and yeah, meat over here is MUCH better, but I really miss stupid things like Hamburger Helper, and you can't source Minute Rice for love nor money here!!

The expat just outside London :P
Amelio - check eBay UK - there are all kinds of American products on there all the time.

Now let me tell you the easy and fail proof way to make regular old rice so you don't really need Minute Rice:

You can use anything at all as a measure - a measuring cup, a coffee cup, a juice glass - ANYTHING.

1 measure white rice
2 measures of water (or chicken broth)

Dump it in a pot with a tight fitting lid. Bring it to a boil. Leave it sitting on the burner - turn the burner totally off. Put the lid on the pot. WALK AWAY from the kitchen - don't check on it - do not lift the lid - WALK AWAY!

Come back in 15 or 20 minutes. Take the lid off and fluff it with a fork.

Now that is Magic Rice!!!

wow, the minute rice is reasonable until you check out the P and P....I'll check out the London stores first......I don't know how you'd get that stuff over to the US without it going bad on its way over, otherwise i'd look into it!
Awwww Amelio you are a sweetie - I was just teasing you.

But I wasn't teasing about making rice using the method I posted for you. Will you try it just once for me please?

I will be waiting to hear that it worked just like I told you it would!!! :)

If you have any ideas about how I can forward some bacon on do let me know - [email protected] is my email :D
Oh honey - they wouldn't let you send me any bacon, even if we could figure out a way to keep it from spoiling - but what a sweetie you are to think of that!!!

Tell your Mother I said she did a fine job of raising you.

There is now! I own a shop in Bath which is similar to American stores like Pottery Barn and Williams Sonoma, and we now stock American food like cookie, pancake, brownie and waffle mixes; syrups, sauces and preserves; and Californian oils and vinegars. We will be doubling our range in the new year with a selection of summer entertaining food as well. Most of the time we have our food out on the shop floor to taste, so in answer to your question - YES, there is a physical shop in the U.K. (but we do sell online as well!). www.redwoodbay.co.uk
