Baking powder

What is the difference between baking powder and baking soda.I thought they were the same but I have a recipe for muffins that has 10g of both in.Is baking soda the same as bicarbonate of soda?

They are both raising agents. I think bicarb is usually used for bready type products and baking powder for cakes.

Bicarb is also good for cleaning around the house.

What could you clean with bicarb
A solution of bicarbonate of soda is often used to clean the inside of manky fridges - unlike washing-up liquid it leaves no smell.
