Did anyone see 'Undercover Mum' last night?
What did you think of the report on well-known restaurant chains and their 'steak'?

I was actually impressed at the 'statements' these places issued to try to say, 'we are not hiding the fact we use this type of meat we are just avoiding telling you'
Hi annemollie, I watched this programme and I was disgusted at the revelation that the steaks ordered were not from the convention cow as I would have expected. Even if the animals' origin was in question I would have not chosen it knowing it was that beast !!
i'm curious - what is zebu meat? i didn't see the programme you're referring to.
Since the BSE scare non of my family eat beef, glad we don't it was terrible. I am a vegetarian, but believe that if you want to eat meat, it should at least be what it claims on menus.
actually it is what it says on the label. steak, it comes from cattle so can still be called steak, i think its the fact that we dont look on it as we do catle as the norm, i.e a cow!
I agree with gina32, a steak might mean cow to you but all it is in fact is a cut of meat.

It may well be a bit sneeky but unless it says beef why should you assume it is.

a zebu is just another breed of cattle, though not one that's very common in Britain. If you eat one, you can eat the other - I wouldn't swear I could tell the difference in taste, or that anyone else could.

Mmmmm Zeeeeeeeebu!
yeah! it was like 67% Zebu and the rest normal cow cos the meat is so rancid that it would taste horrible on its own! That has well put me off ever eating in those places again, or even any beefeater type pub grub place! I would rather know what im eating and be able to make an informed choice.
but until the progrmme you were eating i assume, and probably have done in other places as well
i rarely eat out anyway, chances are if i had gone there and was told that, i probably would have tried it anyway, but it makes it sound nasty if your not told what your getting, or delibratly misled into thinking iot was british beef (as was said on thier menus)
