I'm after ideas for something tasty and quite quick isn't going to be a faff to prepare as have limited time available after work! Have offered to cook for a potential love interest but didn't really think it through first! I'd rather it wasn't based around mince either, I do wicked lasagne and bolognese but I'm thinking that's quite average. Haevnt got ime to sit and think about it, so I'm relying on you guys to help me out!
Hey teag1rl :)
How about grilled Lemon Sole, salad (good dressing... homemade or bought) and new pots served with butter and a slice of lemon on the fish.
Desert? A good vanilla ice cream with homemade toffee sauce? ie: 284 ml double cream with 75gr butter and 6 tbsp dark brown sugar cooked together till melted, then simmered for 3-5 mins.....
Buy some chicken goujons (ready-made, or roll fresh chicken slices in breadcrumbs). Meanwhile, slice up some yellow peppers, tomatoes & red onion. Drizzle in oil and a little water, and place in a hot oven for 20 minutes. Boil some rice (in a bag if you wish), and fry the goujons for about 8 minutes. Then serve. You can do the whole lot in about 30 mins, and it's very tasty.
I've already thought about that one. It's so quick and simple we wait a bit and have it later on, or no need to bother with it at all if there's no room left! I love answerbank....
How about being classic with a lovely fillet steak cooked how he likes it with oven baked garlic and rosemary potatoes. You could do a nice salad with crispy bacon bits and croutons?
Save the dessert for later. If he's still hungry, you can always make up a fresh fruit salad, but I'm sure the conversation'll be stimulating enough for one night.
Thanks andrea. Too early for steak methinks. I'm guessing maybe boys do eat salad, as I've had another suggestion for it. Must just be all the one's in my past that didn't know what a lettuce looked like.
Is it supposed to be a 'look I can cook' exercise or is it just a 'he will come round so we can spend time together' exercise???
If it is the latter - why don't you just buy chinese over the deli counter to cook at home, you can get all the cool stuff like the prawn crackers (crisp things) the prawn toasts, spring rolls, etc as like appertisers or sides and then a nice rice say a special fried that has peas and tasty stuff in and then a choice of different meals so you can have a bit of everything - but not ribs that wouldn't be romantic would it!
You could then have something light and lemon based for afterwards something that refreshens the palette and is light and not too filling. It should be a fridge based dessert that can just sit in the fridge if you have no room for dessert nothing that takes too much preparation. Say a cheese cake, or mousse thing. You could buy that over make it.
Basically chinese always tastes good most poeple like it there's lots of choice, it easy to warm up and it leaves you time to tidy round and make yourself look unflusted!
lol, thanks what the..... it's a bit of both really, I'm concerned I may have come across as a bit of a dizzyhead, so I want to have a decent stab at cooking from scratch but most important thing is looking v. cool about it all and it not being any trouble! I've got lots of ideas here now and best thing is I don't even have to decide til last minute!
I hope you have a great evening, but remember, nobody's cooking ever seems to match up to "mummy's". Might just be best to get a takeaway, as suggested - and open a bottle of your favourite tipple.
hahaha! why dont you ask him what he likes eating? Then you can know what not to cook........i would do something simple and easy like chicken wrapped in proscutio ham with spinach and ricotta in the middle with homemade potato wedges and a cheese or mushroom sauce....and a BIG CHOCOLATE TRIFLE!! mmmmmm
