Most modern deep fat fryers are designed to heat up to an oil frying temperature so I would suspect not.
I certtainly would not recommend it sloppy-joe
It would just solidify.
Use a sunflower oil.
Depends how you want your house to smell and how long you want to live.
The question is surely should you be using lard? I'm no health freak, but I can't believe people still use it...
Of course people still use lard - and goose fat for roast potatoes.

I use a lot of lard - and dripping on my toast.

Hi sloppy-joe
Just a quick tip.
Try double frying your chips.
Fry them on a low temperature about 150 degrees. Turn the deep fat fryer up to maximum, then fry the chips again. It makes them a lot crispier.
Ethel - I know people still use it, and goose fat for potatoes (very occasionally)I agree, produces great roasties, but lard / dripping on toast is just foul. As I said I'm no health freak, but...
I love dripping on toast - as as I'm well past retirement age with a cholesterol reading never above 4.7 I'm not going to stop eating it.
Sloppy, I don't care for dff's myself. However, I learned an interesting thing to do when frying chips to give them great flavour. Immeidatly after dropping in the chips, put in one cut strip of streaky bacon.. they will have the flavour you might enjoy..

If anyone is gagging at this thought and can feel their arteries hardening at the thought....there is an alternative...dust your healthy chips with lemon pepper and thyme....no salt... just added that to make myself feel better! :-)

MMMmmmmmm chips in fat...Mmmmmmmm Homer
