Do you think the UK celebrate halloween for the right reasons? Why is it that children have to plaster your vehicle with flour if you don't give them money any more. Sweets apparently aren't good enough? The US seem to get a lot more fun out of it but it seems lost on us. Or is it just me?

I live in a communal flat, no one gets past the main door. :-)
I just set the dog on the little tramps.

The US gets more fun out of it? Some areas have banned it, apples in razor blades etc.
Peculiar event isn't it eyeshade. I don't recall it being a big deal in my childhood. The kids get a lot of fun out of it, and I think most behave themselves. Never had much of a problem myself, just some flour thru the letterbox one year (after I gave a generous handful of sweets too).

Joy of joys; I am in a hotel tomorrow night and will escape this years 'bribery'. I know its a bit drastic but at least I won't be getting that sudden panic when you remember that you forget to get the sweets in again this year. I have resorted to cold hard cash because of this.
Never been trick or treating as my parents were against it on religous grounds....but I think they just loved ruining my childhood, I must have been the only child in my county not going out and having fun. I don't see any real harm in it, but then again I have never know or seen 'plastering of flour'. Yes the US is bigger and better in many ways! I have always wanted to go to a halloween party but I am a massive loser and have never been invited to one.

< LOSER!
I usually dress my window in an eerie halloween scene and the 25-30 kids and parents that come to my door love it. I have little bags of sweets for them and have a mask and witches hand with the sweet bags in a couldren bucket to answer the door. This year however I am not fit enough to dress the window and can't reach up to it anyway so I am not sure if many will turn up this year :-(
Im 38 and we never went trick or treating, we more more interested in building bonfires and aiming fireworks at portakabins

Blimey Rev! apples in razor blades or was it razor blades in apples. What a good idea!
Seriously though it gets silly when it is not done for fun. One year the parents were standing outside by the hedge asking them if we had given them anything, they were worse than the kids!

What..the - don't worry, I was never let loose either although nobody did it when I was very young it seems to have only caught on in the last 15 years or so from what I can see. I feel like a grumpy old woman but I think they should ban halloween along with fireworks.

I haven't been allowed out to Trick or Treat since I egged my sister. :o(
apples in razor blades, shocks any american when the realise they might have had something healthy near their skin. lol
Its licensed begging. If a tramp came to your door you wouldn't give him a treat would you lol
My mum never used to give trick or treaters anything until one day we heard buzz on door and didnt answer I then went and looked out window and explained to mum that there was a tiny toddler walking down drive in a little witches outfit who kept looking back up driveway with sad little eyes hoping door would open. Made my mum feel really guilty and she bought sweet next year and no one came :-)

Oh and while I'm here, carol singing as well, they stand there, push the door bell without singing a blooming carol. Last year we asked them to sing while we listened and they said they didn't know one. We laughed so much. I can't quite believe it really.
We had a carol singer at my mums once and he was same git who stole my car stereo. I said how about singing along to my stereo you little ********

Nice one 4get! Fancy having the bare faced cheek to come round again!!
I'm not feeding the dog tonight ;D xxx
So my quality street tin full of satsumas and other healthy stuff would get me in trouble round your way then? lol
You miserable lot!!! We dont have enough fun in downtrodden Britain as it is The kids love it and look forward to dressing up and a lot of the older people look forward to the kids knocking and have bags of sweets ready.

However, before you all attack, I suppose I have a untainted view as I live in a quiet village and have not experience some of the stories you hear!
I have 4 big bags of sweets ready for the little oiks. I'm kind of hoping nobody turns up so I can eat all the sweets myself.lol.
I truly hate it- it IS a form of begging and I for one am refusing to answer the door to anyone who knocks on it.
