Can anyone advise what I might use as alternatives to milk and buttermilk and eggs in the making of wholemeal bread or scones. Thanks.

Scones don't need eggs and what about soya milk. Not made alot of bread but again i have never used a recipe with eggs in it. :
Bread needs
Wholemeal flour
yeast fat
water
sugar and salt
Hi, if you are in the UK you can buy Lacto Free from Tesco which is normal cow's milk but with the lactose removed so it tastes EXACTLY the same as normal milk. If its something other than lactose you are avoiding, sweetened soy milk isn't very different from normal milk and will taste fine in scones. As the previous answer said, you don't need eggs for scones.

I got this substitute for buttermilk off www.godairyfree.org:

 cup Silken Tofu
cup plus 3 Tablespoons of Water
1 Tablespoon Lemon Juice or Vinegar
Pinch of Salt
Directions: Blend all ingredients together. Let the solution stand for ten minutes before adding to your recipe

and here are some egg substitutes from a vegan website (although I think using just plain silken tofu would do it)

instead of 1 egg, you can use...
1 tbsp gram (chick pea) or soya flour and 1 tbsp water
1 tbsp arrowroot, 1 tbsp soya flour and 2 tbsp water
2 tbsp flour, tbsp shortening, tsp baking powder and 2 tsp water
50g tofu blended with the liquid portion of the recipe
  large banana, mashed
 50 ml white sauce

Happy cooking!
