Is this nice? I wanted to get my partner some whisky for xmas. I came across what I think is a really pretty gift. Unfortunately it is only stocked in shops in Scotland and a few in England. I can buy it on the internet but though it looks nice (to me) in the picture, I am worried in case it doesn't look like it in real life. It's the globe.

I'd really like to see it or have an opinion if anyone has seen one or can go and check them out for me if they look in any of the shops it is stocked in. Tell me if it looks cheap and plasticky or like it does in the photo.

I used to buy clothes from the catalogue when I was young and they would always arrive and look n nothing like the colour enhanced photos. So am a little wary.

For 40 pounds I would prefer a large bottle of single malt without all the razzamatazz to be honest.

Malt whisky is better than blended, but a single malt is the dogs doodars.

Yes I admit the type of whisky is a bit vague. I didn't expect it to be top quality from a gift shop though...Unless it's a specific gift of whisky. Thanks for your input about the razmataz. I think men have different brains from women. (Thats presuming you're male)
Lol Wardy, haven't heard the phrase 'razzmatazz ' since college.

Jedimistress, here's a variety to choose from and their prices are reasonable.

Thanks for the link.
I hate whisky (except Laphroig and Talisker) but those descriptions make them sound georgeous.

Ardberg 8/10
Laphroig 7/10
Lagavulin 10/10
Bowmore 7/10

Dave.
Mrwarpig considers himself an aficionado of whisky particularly single malts and he, for one, would not give a flying f@rt what the bottle looked like, it is what is inside that he savours. Given the price of the globe, your money would be better spent and the present more appreciated by buying one of webbos suggestions. Good luck with whatever you decide.
Dalwhinnie or Balvennie are particular faves of mine.

However, the best whisky I have ever tasted is Jameson, now I know this is Irish, but it is divine.
O- I agree with all the above -there is nothing better than a good malt -those ones just looked tacky (sorry).
I myself like a Glenmorangie but why not get half a dozen miniatures of malts -that would be way more exciting like a tasting sesh (think of the results- wink)
Tesco's have got some cracking offers on at the moment on single malts... one of the smoothest is Highland Park, followed by The Balvenie, Talisker, Dalwinnie and Glenmorganie. Jamiesons is also very very nice ! Laphroaig is a bit of an *acquired* taste as it is very peaty but once hooked you or your beloved will be a fan for life !

If can afford it, go for the oldest (12 or 15 years or beyond) but I can assure you that even a 10 year old single malt will be far far superior to anything from the gift shop !
