Is there a difference ?

(And while you're about it could you drop me a few suggestions as to what to do with 500g of mince I bought at lunchtime.)

Sorry I hadn't noticed, I thought this was the first post in months to even mention mince. Why can't you just answer the question, any recipe would be double plus helpful.
Meatballs,cottage pie,shepards pie,meatloaf,chillie,stuffed peppers or aubergines,...thats it for now.
Hello whiffey, I wrote this out for poppy (3 posts down) but this is for you as well - and very easy. By the way steak mince is the very best, so always use it if you want to taste the best!

Posh Cottage Pie

Fry a couple of large finely sliced carrots, 1 finely chopped onion, then add a dollop of tomato sauce to the gravy (knorr, oxo or Bisto to meat juices) Add few stripped sprigs of Thyme plus a bit of flour. Cook to thicken.

Put mashed potato on top, then add 2 or 3 sliced baby leeks or 1 large one, cooked in butter till soft. Place leeks over mash and finish with 2 or 3 oz of grated cheese.

As you already have veg in the pie, just serve, with added gravy.
Hey cetti

No meat in your recipe what happened ?
Have a look at the Q, Dewi, it clearly states 500g of mince!!!!
Sure does cetti
Sorry didn't make my meaning crystal clear.
How would you cook the mince and for how long ?
It's exactly the same as for a Cottage Pie, Dewi, with just a few added ingedients. It's based on Delia's recipe but I move things about to suit myself.

After putting the leeks and cheese on top, put in middle of pre-heated oven for about 25 mins (about Gas 5) until cheese is lightly brown.
I tried kirstys crumble with the mince yesterday delicious, Imight do your posh shepherds pie on sat cetti.
Sounds lovely popsy, I think I'll give it a try as well.

Have you tried doing mince in a similar way to Lasagne but using cooked, sliced new pots in place of pasta sheets. Works a treat and is a bit of a change.

Im not really fussy any minge is better than none.Though make no miSTAKE as long as its fresh .
Depends who it's for Whif - a make your own taco's kit from most supermarkets is quick and makes a nice change.

Fry off mince with a little onion, add the seasoning pack.
Warm the tacos in the oven and put dishes sour cream, salsa and sliced lettuce on the table and construct your own. Kids love em and adults quite like em too.

Or another quick (I'm an expert at quick!) recipe, buy a packet of ready made ready rolled puff pastry. Fry chopped onion and mince, grate in 2 carrots and one courgette, stock cube and a little water and lea & perrins, simmer, thicken if necessary. Transfer to an oven proff dish, top with pastry, pop in oven about 25 mins, lovely minced beef pie, serve with whatever you want.

Or even quicker if good quality mince and you don't mind the risk of food poisoning, Steal Tartare; season mince well
form into patties, make a dent in the top break open raw egg and put in dent, serve.

Hope this helps.

Oh minced steak is just that, minced steak, minced beef is minced trimming leftover ones all the other cuts have been taken from the beef carcass - I know this as I once had to joint a whole side of beef for a catering exam and you got bonus marks for the quality of your mince!
steak mince must have 95% of lean beef, while beef mince must have 85% of lean beef

and its all regually tested these days.....so gone of the days of 'mince'. which cud of been anything and i can assure you, it was anything
Just to wack in a couple of comments too which may be of use though you've no doubt used up all the mince now.....

- dry fry and use in a proper 'spag bol' - the sauce should be dry, with red wine as the base and full of meat flavour, not a wet tomato thing.

Use in a curry recipe that calls for 'keema' - keema is a main dish on its own (normally lamb) but also 'keema' is simply mince, so try a Keema Matter (with peas); Keema Kofta (spicy meat balls) or an Aloo Keema with tatties.....

Use as above in tacos - but go for chimichangas or burritos too for variation in shapes and flavours - baked or fried, with sauces/salsa or alone....

Use the mince fried in spices to stuff naan breads or parathas - serve warm - very filling and tasty.

Lots of recipes from the Lebanon use mince mixed with nice flavours - do a search for things like stuffed vegetables - cabbage rolls, artichokes, peppers, big tomatoes, or things like aubergines baked with a savoury mince 'sauce'.

Make my Mums mince beef stew - fry it off, remove the bulk of the fat, season well, add stock, chopped carrots, peas and a good slug of milk. This makes a really creamy, tasty stock base for the meat. Lashings of mash with this one please!

Hope this helps.

hi,minced steaked is just a sirloin/rump steak put through a mincer,no added water or seasoning, and because its a steak cut you could make burgers more juicer and not worry about food poisoning. minced beef is the opposite.
try meat balls with cheese in the middle served with tomatoe and basil sauce and pasta, delish!!
