Yes, and before. Spanish missionaries planted vineyards in Mexico in the 1600s and California in the 1700 and wine has been made there continuously since. As settlers moved ever westward across America they planted vineyards. Cowboys, when they could afford it, drank wine and Champagne from Europe and locally made.
The cowboy era was the 19th century. Did anyone drink wine by then? :)
