On a recent trip to Tesco's my in-house chef wanted some more Porridge as he likes to have his oats daily but as I looked at the boxes I found that they have different spellings:

Porage and Porridge

The latter appears in my dictionary so why then are they not the same spelling and which one is correct, any one know?

It is the Scottish spelling.
are you sure ethel, cos Iv'e just looked at mine and they are scots porridge oats
I've just checked a couple of sites where it says Porage is the Scottish spelling, however, I am a Scot and just had a look at my box and it's spelt Porridge.

I guess it must be an old fashioned spelling of it.
All the boxes of Scotts Oats I've seen have 'porage'.

Spelt in the style of The Broons and Oor Wullie.
