I would like a good-from scratch recipe for this rather than buy it ready made from Tesco. Any ideas? Also what to eat with it?!

Get a food processor and add a tin of chick peas, clove of garlic, the juice of a lemon and a glug of olive oil.
I eat mine with warm pitta bread!!

Also you can have vegetable crudites to dip into the houmous.
Meglet has the right idea - you could also add some tahini - sesame seed paste - and some toasted sesame seeds and finely chopped parsley. As Funnygirl says, it's good with warmed up pitta breads and sticks of raw veg - carrot, cucumber, sweet peppers etc (crudits). I make a thick hummus pat and spread that onto wholewheat toast .... yummy !
Mmmmm have it with pitta bread! Although having said that when I buy it I end up eating it straight out of the tub with a spoon!
Definitely needs tahini for that lovely nutty taste! Ooooh, this is making me hungry!
