I have a friend who tried it and she did lose weight, she also felt really ill and tired the whole time she was on it.As soon as she stopped the diet the weight went back on. Did you know that the man who invented the Atkins diet was obese when he died?
Please don't try this, it's been discredited on numerous occasions, it causes bowel problems, flatulance, bad breath and other long term medical problems.
My mother in law used it (along with thousands of other Americans at the time) for quite a while and lost some weight.

Soon after she gave it up, the weight was back though, I guess.

It is supposed to be extremely unhealthy, so I would not recommend it!
Like any diet you can lose wieght but when you have to start living normally again it goes back on. Dieting makes you fat, only life style change can effect true weight(fat) loss.
I did a few years ago and it was SO HARD!!!! I did lose some weight but i craved carbs even more, its just not natural to have no carbs in your diet.
Dont bother with it, try weight watchers-very easy!
It didn't do much for Dr Atkins did it, he dropped dead...

I tried it lost 2 stone got fed up with it went back to normal eatin and now im just as big as i was before! the only way im going to do it is by starving myself and exercise!
I lost 10lbs in a week... I also couldn't get back up again if I knelt down as I was so weak. Every lb went back on when I started eating normally again, too. Not good.
Whatever you think of his diet, he did not die of it:

On April 8, 2003, Atkins slipped on ice and fell in front of his medical office in New York City and sustained major head injuries that put him in a coma. He died on April 17th have never regained consciousness
no he didnt die of it but he was obese when he died which shows it didnt really work for him either!!
There is an American study which shows that it is better to be fat and fit than thin and unfit if you are older, if that is any consolation......

I work in a cafe and there is a lady who comes in every day for the past 2 weeks, who is on this particular diet, she has; 3 eggs, 3 bacon, 3 sausages, tomatoes & mushrooms.... how on earth can that be called a diet, no way is it healthy! I have heard the same thing that whoever finishes this diet, then puts back on every ounce they have lost and sometimes more. I certainly wouldn't entertain this diet. I used to do weight-watchers and the leader of the class I used to attend condemned the Aitkins Diet completely and I totally agree.
This diet is full of saturated fats which will clog up your arteries. There is no harm in lowering your carb intake though. Just cut down on bread, pasta, rice and potatoes and eat more veg.
