tried recipe for a madeira cake
my mum loves madeira cake and i keep on promising her i will make her one any abers got a tried recipe that they can give me thanks!

6oz butter or marg
6oz caster sugar
3 large eggs
5oz s-r flour
4oz plain flour
pinch salt
grated rind & juice of half a lemon
method - put oven on @ 325F, gas mark 3, 160-170C.
grease & line with grease proof paper a 7inch round tin.
beat butter until soft. add sugar. cream together until light & fluffy. add eggs, one at a time beating well between.
fold in sifted flours & salt alternately with the strained juice & rind. Turn into tin & level surface. bake in the centre of pre-heated oven for one to one & a quarter hours. leave to cool in the tin for 10 mins then turn out onto a wire rack.
