Milk effects you very quickly, you are probably fine. Food could technically be frozen and refrozen, even raw chicken or pork without cooking, if you kept the conditions optimum but the chances are that you haven't done that. A second freeze can disrupt cells so that bacteria can feed off them if the thawing process has been executed properly. You need to keep defrosting foods below a certain temperature so that the pathogens dont activate. It might be 4 degrees but im not entirely sure. Either way, its just easier not to do it.

great answer thanks, I didn't know that. It takes so bloody long to defrost (try it) that you often just leave it out. All becomes clear now about chickens as well (defrost in fridge overnight, I could never work that one out). Given the pain of a bad tummy it just aint worth it.
Boo, I've been freezing it for a while, it's great, so convenient. Comes out more or less good as new. Give it a wee shake.

I still can't figure out what to do with chicken. You buy a fresh chicken....can you freeze it, thaw it, cook it, freeze that? Or does that follow the ideas you stated?

My friend was surprised (and amused!) that we freeze milk. But we don't use a lot of it, so a frozen pint comes in handy. If we do a 'big shop' and buy a couple of pints, they sit nicely in the freezer. Just defrost thoroughly or you end up drinking milky ice!
