One of the actions of alcohol is to that it will tend to increase blood flow, especially to the networks of samll capilliaries close to the skin surface, more blood near the skin will make you look more red. Maybe a medical person could give more details, this is all I remember from Mr. Medhurst's legendary O level Biology lessons :)
