What kitchen gadget has enhanced your "kitchen" life! what could you not do without! I have just bought a Kenwood Mini Chopper at half price haven't really got to grips with it yet tried onions so far so good! Wanted to buy a Nicer Dicer but they are still quite expensive. Admit I do like gadgets!
The only particularly useful gadget in my kitchen is a corkscrew ;-)
Actually, I do find that they vary a great deal in quality. There are lots of so-called deluxe types but there's nothing to beat a decent 'waiter's friend'.
I have loads of gadgets gathering dust in cupboards .
Juicer, breadmaker, blender, electric chip fryer, food mixer, electric tin opener and so on .I never use them .Or let's say I have used them once or twice and cursed at all the bits you have to wash up and reassemble !
I have an electric handmixer with the two beaters ,a Kenwood one which I use quite a lot and could not live without my slowcooker .
Little gadgets like a mandolin and a handblender I like and I also have a little mini chopper thing which I use a lot .
Otherwise I don't think you can beat a few good sharp knives !
I've got a breadmaker (gets used every other day, sometimes more if I'm making a pizza), a filter coffee machine (gets used every morning), a food processor (gets used at least once a week - I tend to cook in batches and freeze for the week ahead), a little handheld mixer - only gets used for egg whites and the rare cake (I often use the food processor instead). The food processor came with a blender but I've only used that attachment once.... I don't eat meat or fish so I don't think a slow cooker would be a lot of use to me ! My most raved about kitchen gadget though has to be my curry pot pressure cooker - absolutely brilliant at cooking stuff like beans, lentils, hard veg etc.
You don't need to just cook meat and fish in a slowcooker you know Juggerling .I don't cook any fish in it and although I am a meat eater I still cook vegetable stuff in it .A nice hearty vegetable stew with dumplings ( you can use veggie suet ). Or a vegetable curry etc. You can cook anything in it not just meat !
And you always have a nice hot meal to come home to.
Thanks JCL.... I'd not thought of that ! I did look into getting a slow cooker but since most veg seem to taste much nicer if they are cooked quite fast (I use the pressure cooker for beans and other pulses), I thought the gadget would just be gathering dust. As I mentioned above, I tend to cook on a weekend in a large batch, freeze individual portions and reheat these during the week when I get home from work.
I've got an electric carving knife, it was the bees knees when I bought it about 15 years ago, but it has been sitting in the kitchen cupboard unused for the last 13 or 14 years!
I keep thinking I ought to get rid of it - anyone want an electric carving knife? lol
We bought a bread maker a couple of months ago. as the seeded bread we eat went up to 1.59 a loaf. It is a Kenwood, so easy to put everything in, in fact my husband has taken it over, the only cooking he does. A seeded loaf now costs us about 50p., it is delicious, and there is really no washing up, as the loaf tin is non stick, and only needs a wipe round with a bit of kitchen roll.
George Foreman grill - it's really good for fish and burgers - so long as you remember to put the drip tray underneath! We also have a mandolin but for some reason OH has only used it once or twice (he does 90% of the cooking!) I recently bought a hand whisk like my mother used to have where you have the two beaters and a handle top and side and you rotate the side wheel - brought back many memories!
Yes, george foreman grils are great arent they.ours gets used regularly for chicken, pork, steak and toasties, but it also cooks bacon and sausages nicely.
the non-stick is starting to wear so it will need upgrading soon, i fancy the one which has 5 plates that are removable and can be shooved in the dishwasher, and that sounds excellent!
This time of year I would not like to be without my cherry stoner. It is great to be able to put cherries into a fruit salad and not have to worry about swallowing a pip.
