has anybody a good recipe for a starter for the xmas dinner

Depends on what you want. You could go for the usual prawn cocktail, avocado and prawns or parma ham and melon or you could do asparagus wrapped in parma ham.
Yes, I would strongly recommend a cold starter which can be prepared in advance.

Have a look at a home made timbale - there are plenty of recipes, and you can make it the day before, serve with good bread.

Little thai crab fish cakes that can be made in advance and warmed through in the oven with a choice of chilli dressing or a less spicy one are popular at the moment.
if you are having a big family xmas i would go with a warm
minestroni/veg soup that should warm the cockles of their hearts .

thanks for those suggestions think l think l have around 15 for xmas dinner s they have given me some ideas
Not soup to heavy a starter, has to be a cold one easy prep!!!
mmm i like the fishcake n dips idea meself
