I am a Caterer and am looking for some inovative new ideas for canapes and finger food. Do you think that it is possible to provide high quality menus on a small budget? or do you think that most people would be able to tell the difference?

As long as everything tastes nice then extra dressing can make a lot of difference to how food is percieved like lattices on top of mini tartlets.

More exotic ingredients make a nice difference like goats cheese or dolcelatte with sun dried tomatos or brie and mushroom tartlets.

Prawn or vegetable tempura with sweet chilli dipping sauce are lovely or novelty things like mini fish and chips wrapped in mini newspaper.

Mini pots of dips with their own dippers like cucumber and tzaziki or red pepper dip with pitta.

Oven roasted veg on kebab sticks.

Homemade sausage rolls in puff pastry or cocktail sausages cooked in honey and wholegrain mustard.

I find things were are labelled or clear what they are or told work better to avoid the fear factor of not knowing what things are and avoidance as well as things which are an acquired taste such as sushi.

Hi. Finger food should be light and very tasty in my opinion, thats how reputation is built. What you sell alongside the canapes will also speak volumes of the food's perception.
Try some high quality drinks, and water.
