I chop them up before I freeze them, then freeze them in a container. If you don't compact them into a container you can simply take out a frozen spoonful as and when you need it in recipes, and a teaspoonful equates to one chopped chilli!
Yes, very well. I bought large quantities of Dorset Nagas last Autumn and put them straight into the freezer (except for the one I ate raw - gradually!). When it's time to cook a curry, I just take one or two out, chop while still frozen, and lob into the pot.
For adding zest to, say, a jalfrezi however, you need to add fresh green chillies.
p.s. why are you buying chillies from Tesco? Don't you have any local Indian grocers? - much cheaper.
Yes Gormless...we do have Indian grocers even here in darkest Plymouth....but I can't always get to them when they have just gotten all the nice fresh produce in,sooooo......it is off to the dreaded Tesco monstrosity.
I have south-facing windows at the rear of my flat........but all the window boxes that folk have are at the front....so I do not know if they can be installed at the back.
