Do bananas count towards the 5 portions of fruit and veg we are supposed to eat each day? Also, why do potatoes not count?

Only if you eat them.

I think potatoes come under carbo-hydrates

Yes bananas do count towards your five portions a day. Octavius is correct , potatoes are classed as carbohydrates and therefore do not count. A glass of fruit juice also counts as a portion though but just the first glass , not if you have any more to drink. As does a bowl of tomato soup.

Thank you.  Informative.
Also, your breakfast cereal (within reason) counts as a portion. Potatoes do not count as they are not a fruit or a vegetable
