I have just done a recipe from asda website for one pot pork and rice dish. It should of been cooked for 55 min but was in for 1 hour 15. the rice is still not cooked. i folowed the recipe to the book. i used all the right ingrediants and right amount of liquid but i have had to bin it all. Any ideas why the rice wouldn't cook?

Its called Pork and rice one pot
Try this link. I used Asda long grain rice. It was the smart price stuff, extra cheap so maybe that was the problem.
it looks & sounds nice - to be honest, it does look a bit dry in the picture.
I can't stand the pre fluffed rice because that seems to take forever to cook, but this is long grain & I wouldn't have thought it would still be uncooked.
could you take the pork out, add some more stock to the rice and cook it a bit longer.......if you haven't hrown it out already

too much faffing around Jack but thanks for your help. I might email asda and ask them. They might wing some vouchers my way, you never know.
i do a very simlar recipe using chicken instead of pork - chicken basque - and brown rice instead of white. i cook it in the oven at 180oC for exactly one hour and it's perfect. brown rice usually takes longer than white generally so it's puzzling as to why your recipe hasn't worked. i can only think it must be the rice you've used, although it still should have cooked for the time you gave it,and reckon you're right in letting asda know about it given it's one of their own recipes using their own brand items.
To cook rice it has to be brought to the boil & then simmered. Was your dish boiling when you added the rice?

n.b. all raw rice should be rinsed three times to remove starch before cooking.
The rice needs to be able to absorb liquid in order to cook, it sounds like the recipe has not allowed enough liquid, otherwise, it shouldn't matter if the rice is cheap, it should still cook.
as above your rice has to be in boiled temp. and did you make sure that all the rice are covered with your stock? raw rice do not cook very well in oven. Maybe you should boil it.

next time dont throw it all away, just add more stock to your dish and cover and boil on your cooker (high)for at least 15mins. then place it in the Oven.

other wise for step two (on the guide)..... cover and boil for at least 15mins on the cooker, dont open the lid, otherwise the rice would not cook.
then you can place it in the oven for 55mins.

but i was just thinking instead of putting in oven you could probably simmer on the cooker med heat for 35-40 mins, stirring each time.
It is a mis-conception that you need to rinse rice.

I suppose you did cook it at 180C and not 180F.
That would really have P***ed me off, especially if I was cooking it for me and getting hungrier and hungrier!!!

Deffo write to ASDA, tell us what they suggest/do.

Good luck
