I was given some acid free tomatoes the other day. They were bright orange. I have never heard of them & am wondering how they are acid free & why?

They're not actually acid-free, and should really be called ''low-acid tomatoes'', since all tomatoes will still have acid present. The new ones have been developed in Holland from old varieties that were already naturally low in acid. Usually this results in a much sweeter tomato, which you can duplicate by putting sugar on sliced tomato in a salad, like my grandfather used to do. Well, he reasoned, it's a fruit after all.
