and hail men only do bbqs because they like to p1ss about with fire
I would also add some Vanilla Extract to Redcrx's recipe.
or you could add some cocoa powder and choc chips for a choc chip choc cake.
say that when you have had a few......................lol.
as tigger says, vanilla can be added, or swap some flour for cocoa
or add a coffee flavour, or colour, or choc chips

you can do all sorts with the basic recipe
Hey Red...how do you do the choc chip thing without them all sinking to the bottom? Is there a trick to it?! Cup cakes not a problem but not sure about one big sponge.
Go to the shop and buy one noknow. Much easier.
Or make a multicoloured cake put mixture in different bowls and add food colouring then put each into baking tin and swirl round

ah see little CRX and i just do cupcakes, havnt tried it with a full cake.
huh play about with fire
I won't risk it then! I'll stick to the cup cakes!
This is the one I make, never had a failure yet.
6 ozs self raising flour
6 ozs margarine
6 ozs sugar
3eggs
1and a half teaspoons of baking powder.
Slightly beat the eggs then put everything into a mixing bowl and with a mixer beat for about 2 minutes, takes a lot longer by hand. Divide the mixture into two 8" tins, I always weigh the tins with the mixture in so as to get two equal size sponges. Bake in a preheated oven at 350 degrees F or 180 degree C for about 25 - 30 minutes. Sandwich together with jam or butter cream.

Treat yourself to the book Fast Cakes by Mary Berry
Flying pigs recipe. But use butter. Good luck. Will be gorgeous.
