calories

How can the calories for things such as powdered curry sauce etc appear to vary depending on whether dry or made up ..... when they are made with water!!??

For example...... 120g packet of dry sauce powder has 125 kcal, but packet says per half packet made up equals 100 kcal.

If making up half the packet, surely calories would only be half of 125, as it's only made by adding to water!!! HELP!! Je ne comprends pas!!!!!

I understand the question which is indeed one worthy of an answer. Unfortunately, I don't know the answer but feel sure there's an ABer who can throw some light on the matter of which I now wish an explanation.......Ron

Ron!!!! So glad it's not just me!!! Aarrgghh!! I just don't see how it can be so!!! Unless there is some magic water out there that I am not aware of!!

Good evening echokilo......You certainly posted a very interesting question which will have been read by a lot of ABers; none of whom could offer an explaination for a calorific calamity. In fact I would doudt that an advanced mathematician would be able to reply; in the knowledge that U.K. water supplies do not contain any calories. (Perhaps it's contrary in the curry creative countries where river water might be used!! )

The only thought I now have is that you could, if possible, drop an e/mail to the manufacturer of the item concerned.

It's really got to me this one and my wife Viv is also unable to comprehend the calorie calculations. ( Keep a secret....I think she's better at maths than I am !! )
