I have just bought an ice cream maker and the recipe with it says 1.25 dl milk and 1.25 dl whipped cream. What is a dl? Other recipes in the book have the usual things like ml and gr.

According to this:
1 milliliter = 0.001 liter
1 centiliter = 0.01 liter
1 deciliter = 0.1 liter
1 kiloliter = 1000 liters

....it would appear to be 1/10th of a litre....if that is the case...why not just give the volume needed in mls??

thanks pastafreak - I am still learning the decimal, I was taught Imperial Measures!
So was I....but I bet a lot of people have never come across a 'dl'.
If there are no other ingredients then the recipe is 50% milk & 50% whipped cream. You can now adjust to any quantity you like, subject to it fitting in the ice cream maker.

Thank you both. Now I have a recipe that uses US cups, but I am sure I will find a conversion chart on the web.
I've always grown up with Deci Litres and yes there are 10 Dl's in a litre.

There is approx. 5 1/2 tablespoons in a dl

hope that helps
Is 36 Zee a US Cup...?
