Hi, does anyone know if there is a law stateing that homemade preserves to be sold elsewhere have to have an air tight lid, or can they be sold just with the cling film and parchment paper to make it airtight, a website containing this info would be much appreciated as ive looked but cant find. Thank you

Hello, I googled 'selling homemade preserves' and the following site was near the top. it may have what you want to know. There used to be plenty of preserves and so on for sale at church sales-of-work, Scouts & Guides coffee mornings etc but I suppose the health and safety police are on to that now and you can't 'sell' any home produce without jumping through multiple hoops. Perhaps it is OK to accept a donation for the worthy cause instead? Cheers, Andy
No home-made products can be retailed without kitchens having necessary H & S certs.....available thru local councils.
Sell it to your friends and neighbours ..
Ask your local trading standards office - I think they issue a guide (ours did in Worcestershire)about what you can sell, how and where. e.g regulations for selling at car boot sales or local fetes were different to selling into retail outlets.

Its for selling to farm shops etc.
the Environmental Health Department at your local council should be able to give you advice on this. If the products are being sold in a farm shop it's possible they may want to come and inspect the premises where they are being made.
